The agency’s Independent Living program provides comprehensive supports to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who live in their own homes or with family members. The program offers consumers the opportunity to live as independently as possible while actively participating in community life. Supports are available either through Independent Living or Independent Living Transition.

Independent Living offers exposure to a wide variety of life experiences, focusing on health and safety tools, problem solving, and skills to bolster self-sufficiency and confidence. Living skills include shopping, cooking, laundry, scheduling appointments with physicians, filling medications, computer use, letter writing, and more.

Independent Living Transition offers short term financial aid for a one time expense for adults who move from 24 hour support to clients moving into a home or apartment of their own. Examples of assistance include utilities set-up, acquisition of household goods and furniture, pest control or allergen control services, and similar occupancy concerns before moving into a residential setting of their own.

As with the agency’s full-time Independent Living supports, the Transition program allows adults to more fully integrate into their community.
