Twenty of every 1,000 children in Taos County will be victims of substantiated cases of child abuse. A child abuse allegation is substantiated when it is determined that the victim is under the age of 18, a parent or caretake has been identified as the perpetrator and/or identtified as failing to protect the victim and credibe evidence exists to supportt the conclusion by the investigator that the child has been abused and/or neglected as defined by the New Mexico Children's Code. Types of child abuse allegations are physical abuse, sexual abuse, and physical neglect.
