In recognition of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month, Las Cumbres' Family Support Services program is hosting two separate awareness and prevention events in the month, the first in Taos and the second in Española. Both events are free to the public.
A Celebration of the Child on Tuesday, April 29th, from 3pm until 5:30pm, will feature the music of Taos' children along with food, face painting, and an interactive art exhibit. Meet the team at the Taos Youth and Family Center located at 407 Paseo del Canon East, Taos. For more information about the event, phone (575) 252-3141.
On Friday, April 29th, 3pm to 8pm, join us again at the Española YMCA for presenters, information booths, music, and food. Other agencies on hand will include Rio Arriba County Health and Human Services; Rio Arriba County Substance Abuse, Treatment, Outreach, and Prevention Program (RAC-STOP); representatives of Tewa Women United's Brave Voices program; and Santa Fe Mountain Center. Speaking will be Andrew Valdez whose three-year-old son Leland Valdez was the victim of abuse resulting in the boy's death in 2011.
Attend as a family, come together as a community, to assure health and safety for our children.
