The Behavioral Health Department offers a prevention-based array of programs that promote healthy attachment and social-emotional development in children prenatal to age six (along with their older siblings), and their families. Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health services are offered in Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, and Santa Fe counties (in Santa Fe through the Santa Fe Community Infant Program). Families receiving services are often struggling with multiple stressors such as poverty, substance abuse, incarceration of a family member, CYFD involvement, custody concerns, parental mental health issues, and/ or domestic violence. These traumas can lead to difficulties in the relationship between caregiver and child. Services are delivered both in the home and at the agency with many families choosing to access multiple services at once to meet numerous needs.

  • Client families receive direct, indirect, and/or outreach services in the following:

    • Infant mental health services
    • Circle of Security®Parenting™
    • Play therapy
    • Parenting with Confidence group
    • Couple’s counseling and family therapy
    • Fatherhood Program
    • Dialectical Behavior Therapy
    • Therapeutic Behavioral Respite

In FY 16/17:

  • 757 children and adults received direct services
  • 1667 (estimated) children and adults  received indirect services to assist in securing nurturing parent-child relationships
