Family REunification • Time-limited reunification

FAMILY REUNIFICATION

Family Reunification ­Services are designed for children returning home from Foster Care or other out of home placements who are reunifying with their parents, other family members, or fictive kin, and anyone pursuing guardianship.

If children are in a voluntary placement, Family Reunification Services begin at least one month prior to reunification, and may continue for up to six months thereafter. If children are in CYFD custody, Family Reunification Services begin at least two to three months prior to trial home visits, and may continue for up to (6) six months thereafter. Services include:

  • Environmental assessment and intervention to improve individual and family interactions and skill building

  • Increasing parent protective capacities of their children.

  • Case management and coordination

  • Linkages with other services and support in order to increase parental knowledge and reduce the risk of child abuse/neglect.

Service Duration

­For children in CYFD custody—services should begin 2-3 months prior to Trial Home Visits and can continue for up to eight months thereafter.

This program accepts referrals from the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department.

TIME-LIMITED REUNIFICATION

­Time Limited Reunification (TLR) supports families in reunifying children in CYFD Protective Services’ custody with their parents in an expedited time frame. This program provides time-limited, intensive home-based services to parents. This program helps parents to meet the goals in their treatment plan and works intensely with parents and CYFD Protective Services division to assist in reunifying families in an expedited timeframe (no more than four (4) months from the date of referral) and within 12 months of the most recent removal from the home. Service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and include:

  • Environmental assessment and intervention to improve individual and family interactions and skill-building.

  • Increasing parent protective capacities of their children.

  • Case management and coordination

  • Linkages with other services and support in order to increase parental knowledge and reduce the risk of child abuse/neglect.

Service Duration

­Services are available to families for up to 15 months following the date of the first Trial Home Visit. In some cases, extensions are possible depending on the needs of the family.

This program accepts referrals from the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department.
