WINGS, Walking IN Grace with Survivors of Torture, exists to provide holistic services to survivors of torture and their families living in New Mexico. The program promotes healing for survivors and their families, enabling them to recover and thrive in their communities.

THE REALITY

Torture is documented in over 130 countries and over 200,000 survivors of torture are believed to reside in the United States. These include democracy activists, social and ethnic minorities, journalists, humanitarian professionals, school teachers, and more.

Since the 1960s, thousands of immigrants have resettled in New Mexico from over 30 countries in Latin America, the Middle East, Central Africa, and elsewhere. Many of these countries are experiencing war and civil strife - including the torture of residents by cartels, gangs, police, and governments.

Among human rights abuses, torture is one of the most destructive human experiences. The WINGS Program addresses the physical, psychological, spiritual, and intergenerational effects of torture to help survivors and their families recover, achieve sustained wellness, and thrive.
